Thomas Edison becomes intrigued with the notion of motion pictures after attending a lecture by Eadweard Muybridge in West Orange, New Jersey on February 27.
Edison meets with Muybridge, who proposes a scheme for sound film.
William Kennedy Dickson will direct Edison’s experiments in this field, beginning in 1888 with an attempt to record the photographs on wax cylinders like those used to make phonograph recordings.
