The Canton of Basel is partitioned by the Swiss Tagsatzung, following political quarrels and armed conflict in the canton, to create the two half-cantons of Basel-City and Basel-Country.

Some of these are concerned with the rights of the population in the agricultural areas, ultimately leading to the separation of the canton of Basel-Landschaft from the city of Basel on August 26, 1833.
