September 1843 CE
Tensions in the Kingdom of Greece, its regime beset with growing resentment, come to a head when a bloodless military coup on September 15 (Sept. 3, O.S.), 1843 soon forces King Otto to permit the writing of a new liberal constitution that mandates a constitutional monarchy.
The state has been governed since independence (1830) by various domestic and foreign business interests.
