The Navy chemist Le Prieux, who is…
1828 CE to 1839 CE
Pretending that he is on an official mission, Le Prieux makes a peace treaty on behalf of the French State.
He also installed Gongo as granman.
When the Ndyuka granman Beeyman hears about this, he summons Gongo and tells him that the treaty is unacceptable.
Fearing a French invasion, Beeyman mobilizes his army.
This turn of events upsets the Surinamese government, which asks Gongo to stand down his army, and that they will contact the French Governor.
An agreement is signed between French Guiana and Suriname on November 9, 1836, stating that Le Prieux has no authority whatsoever, and that the Aluku should leave the French territory and submit to the Ndyuka.
