August 1842 CE
William J. Worth, using his own tactics, has successfully prosecuted the Second Seminole War in Florida.
Made a brevet brigadier general in 1842, he eventually persuades Secretary of War John C. Spencer to allow the remaining natives in the territory to confine themselves to an unofficial reservation in southwest Florida, and declares an official end to the war on August 14 of this year.
