The Battle of Lena that takes place…
January 1208 CE
The Battle of Lena that takes place between the former Swedish king Sverker and prince Eric on January 31, 1208, is probably located near Kungslena, which is located in the Tidaholm Municipality in Västergötland.
Sverker had arrived with a large Danish army provided by the Danish king Valdemar.
Medieval sources have this army numbering as many as twelve thousand, or even eighteen thousand men, but that is with all certainty an overstatement and the exact size of this force is unknown.
The Swedes numbered around seven thousand to ten thousand men, another exaggeration.
The Swedes were also backed up by a small number of Norwegian auxiliaries.
The Swedes won, according to legend aided by Odin, and Sverker has to flee back to Denmark.
