The battle of Møn, also known as…
May 1677 CE
The battle of Møn, also known as the battle of Lolland, takes place in the vicinity of Fehmarn on May 31, 1677 as part of the Scanian War.
The Danes had been blockading a Swedish squadron in Gothenburg, and each side had been sending fleets out regularly in the hope of a decisive victory at sea.
The Swedish ships, under Erik Carlsson Sjöblad, leave to return to the Baltic and meet a larger Danish squadron under Niels Juel.
The action starts in the evening of the 31st and continues until the next morning.
It is an almost complete Danish victory.
Several Swedish ships are captured, most as they try to flee, and one is run aground and burned.
