July 1943 CE
The British adopt a new strategy in the eastern Mediterranean in the summer of 1943.
To distract Hitler from the main theater of European invasion planned to cross the English Channel in 1944, the British enlist the cooperation of ELAS in simulating preparations for a major invasion in the Mediterranean.
The strategy has credibility because of Britain's attempted invasion of the Ottoman Empire at Gallipoli in the First World War.
Although all resistance movements are to participate in the plan, ELAS is especially crucial because it controls the largest army and occupies the most territory.
Accordingly, Britain agrees in July to give ELAS additional support if ELAS will end its campaign against rival resistance groups.
