The British conquest of Ijebu Ode in 1892 marks a major extension of colonial power, into the Nigerian interior.

For several years the capital is occupied by British troops as the kingdom is annexed to the colony of Southern Nigeria.

Today, it constitutes one of the traditional states of Nigeria.
