The British invasion of Saint Domingue begins with the landing at Jérémie of several hundred soldiers from Jamaica on September 10; they are greeted with greeted with shouts of "Vivent les Anglais!" from the French population.
The surrounding area goes over to the British, but the mulatto General Rigaud still holds the eastern districts and Les Cayes for the French Republic.
