The sappers are now continually employed in destroying Persian batteries, making roads, landing stages and huts in the unhealthy climate and so cannot be spared for the sortie to Ahvaz, where the Royal Navy and forces from the 64th Foot and 78th Highlanders attack the Persian force.
The town falls to the British on April 1, 1857.
