December 1947 CE
The Palmach—the kibbutz-based strike force of the Haganah—carries out a "retaliation" operation against the village of Al-Khisas on the Lebanese-Syrian border, thirty-one kilometers northeast of Safed, killing ten Arabs, including one woman and four children, on December 1.
This operation, commanded by Moshe Dayan, is contrary to Haganah policy "not to 'heat up' relatively quiet areas," but is justified by Dayan because it had had a "desirable effect."
