Dankmar Adler and Louis Sulllivan complete the Wainwright Building, an early skyscraper, in 1891.

A ten-story, 41 meter (135 foot) terra cotta office building at 709 Chestnut Street in downtown St. Louis, Missouri, the Wainwright Building is considered the first expression of a high-rise tall building.
