The Dutch Reformed Church convenes the Synod…
November 1618 CE
The Dutch Reformed Church convenes the Synod of Dort, a National Synod held in Dordrecht in 1618/19, in order to settle the serious controversy in the Dutch churches initiated by the rise of Arminianism.
Simon Episcopius is spokesman of the thirteen representatives of the Remonstrants who are summoned before the Synod.
The first meeting is convened on November 13, 1618.
Voting representatives from the Reformed churches in eight foreign countries are also invited. (Dort, a contemporary colloquial English term for the town of Dordrecht, is still the local colloquial pronunciation of the name. The Synod is often also referred to as Synod of Dordt or Synod of Dordrecht.)
