The Indian Slavery Act, 1843 outlaws many economical transactions associated with slavery and removes legal support for slavery within the territories of the East India Company.

Passed on April 7 in British India under East India Company rule, the act, also known as Act V of 1843, states how the sale of any person as a slave is banned, and anyone buying or selling slaves will be booked under the Indian Penal Code with an offense carrying strict punishment.
