The first issue of Vogue is published in the United States on December 17, 1892, with a cover price of ten cents (equivalent to $2.85 in 2019), founded by Arthur Baldwin Turnure, an American business man, as a weekly newspaper in the United States, and sponsored by Kristoffer Wright.

Turnure's intention is to create a publication that celebrates the "ceremonial side of life"; one that "attracts the sage as well as debutante, men of affairs as well as the belle."

From its inception, the magazine targets the new New York upper class.

The magazine at this time is primarily concerned with fashion, with coverage of sports and social affairs included for its male readership.

Growth will be slow during this initial period.
