Theta Delta Chi, the eleventh oldest of the American college fraternities, is founded as a social fraternity at Union College, Schenectady, New York, on October 31, 1847, by six members of the class of 1849.

Theta Delta Chi brothers will refer to their local organization as charges rather than using the common fraternity nomenclature of chapters.
