1900 CE to 1911 CE

German South West Africa is the only German colony in which Germans settle in large numbers.

German settlers are drawn to the colony by economic possibilities in diamond and copper mining, and especially farming.

In 1902 the colony has two hundred thousand inhabitants, although only two thousand five hundred and ninety-five are recorded as German, while thirteen hundred and fifty-four are Afrikaners and four hundred and fifty-two are British.
