April 1676 CE
The natives' hopes for supplies from the French in Canada have not been met, except for some small amounts of ammunition obtained in Maine.
The colonists have allied themselves with the Mohegan and Pequot tribes in Connecticut as well as several native groups in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
King Philip and his allies find their forces continually harassed nearly everywhere they went.
Philip had traveled westward in January 1676 to Mohawk territory, seeking, but failing to secure, an alliance.
The Mohawks—traditional enemies of many of the warring tribes—instead of aiding Philip, had proceeded to raid isolated groups of natives, scattering and killing many.
Traditional native crop growing areas and fishing places in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut are continually attacked by roving patrols of combined Colonials and friendly natives.
The allies have poor luck finding any place to grow more food for the coming winter.
Many natives drift north into Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and Canada.
Some drift west into New York and points farther west to avoid their traditional enemies, the Iroquois.
The Narragansett are defeated and their chief, Canonchet, is killed in April 1676.
