In the middle of August 1891 the rebel forces are embarked at Iquique, numbering in all about nine thousand men, and sail for the south.
The expedition by sea is admirably managed, and on the 10th of August the congressionalist army had disembarked at Quintero, about twenty kilometers north of Valparaiso and not many miles out of range of its batteries, and marched to Concón, where the Balmacedists are entrenched.
