The Aluku send a delegation of twelve people to the French Governor on July 7, 1841, to ask permission to settle on the Oyapock River but eleven of their number are killed, including granman Gongo.

Attempts at diplomacy are therefore abandoned, and part of the tribe settles on the Lawa River, where they establish the villages of Pobiansi, Assissi, Puumofu and Kormontibo.
