An outbreak of Rinderpest in the 1890s kills eighty to ninety percent of all cattle in southern Africa, as well as in the Horn of Africa. (On August 2011, the United Nations will hold a ceremony declaring the disease eradicated, making rinderpest only the second disease in history to be fully wiped out, following smallpox.)
