The Paris Convention for the Protection of Industrial Property, signed in Paris, France, on March 20, 1883, is one of the first intellectual property treaties.
It establishes a Union for the protection of industrial property.
The Convention is signed by eleven countries: Belgium, Brazil, France, Guatemala, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, El Salvador, Serbia, Spain and Switzerland.
As of December 2011, the Convention had one hundred and seventy-four contracting member countries, which makes it one of the most widely adopted treaties worldwide.
The Convention is still in force as of 2012.
