The Polish king John II Casimir of the House of Vasa, the Royal House of Sweden from 1523 and of Poland from 1587, leaves Warsaw the same month to confront the Swedish army in the west, but after some skirmishes with the Swedish vanguard retreats southwards to Kraków.
