The potential of Ojuela, a mineral-rich site…
1599 CE
The potential of Ojuela, a mineral-rich site located northwest of the city of Torreón, Coahuila, in northern Mexico, is confirmed following its discovery in 1598 by a group of Spanish prospectors; the exploitation begins.
The foundations of the town are soon set.
The town is located at the top of a mountain within close proximity to the mines main access, in order to have the workers and other mining staff closest as possible to the operation.
The town develops rapidly from a small settlement to a village with all the urban services of the age.
This includes a post office, Catholic church, several warehouses, general stores and saloons.
