The Queen’s financial agent, Sir Thomas Gresham,…
October 1571 CE
The Queen’s financial agent, Sir Thomas Gresham, had built the Royal Exchange (1566–68) in order to provide a convenient meeting place for the bankers (exchange dealers) in London.
At first called the “Bourse”, it receives its present name in 1571 by royal proclamation.
The first English manual of calligraphy, written by Jean de Beauchesne and John Baildon, appears in 1571.
