Swaminarayan constructs his first temple in Ahmedabad in 1822, with the land for construction given by the British Imperial Government, with whom he has good relations.

Following a request of devotees from Bhuj, Swaminarayan asked his follower Vaishnavananand to build a temple here.

Construction on Kalupur Swaminarayan Mandir commences on February 24, 1822; the temple will be built within a year.
