October 1680 CE
The Spanish village of Ysleta, settled between October 9 and October 12, 1680, when Spanish conquistadors, Franciscan clerics and Tigua natives take refuge along the southern bank of the Rio Grande near present day El Paso, is the first European settlement in present-day Texas.
Antonio de Otermín, the Spanish Governor, places Fray Francisco de Ayeta as administrator of the refuge camp of those fleeing Popé's rebellion.
The refuge camp and mission are placed about three miles south of the Rio Grande at this time.
