Over one hundred threshing machines have been destroyed in East Kent by the third week of October.

The similar pattern of the disturbances, and their rapid spread across the country is often blamed on sinister agitators, or upon "agents" sent from France, where the revolution of July 1830 had broken out a month before the Swing Riots began in Kent.
