Both Marshal Sucre and Simon Bolivar are …

Years: 1816 - 1827
Both Marshal Sucre and Simon Bolivar are dead before the year 1830 draws to a close; the former, murdered (on orders from a jealous General Flores, according to some historians), and the latter, from tuberculosis.

Bolivar, heartbroken at the dissolution of Gran Colombia, is quoted as saying shortly before his death, "America is ungovernable. Those who have served the revolution have plowed the sea."

These words will seem prophetic during the chaotic first thirty years in the life of the Republic of Ecuador.
