The United States Survey of the Coast…

March 1836 CE

The United States Survey of the Coast is returned to the U.S. Treasury Department, and renamed the U.S. Coastal Survey, on March 26, 1836.

The Navy retains close connection with the hydrographic efforts of the Coast Survey under law requiring Survey ships to be commanded and crewed by U.S. Navy officers and men when the Navy can provide such support.
