The Nine Years' War, or War of…
1689 CE
The Nine Years' War, or War of the League of Augsburg, waged by Louis XIV against the Empire and its allies to limit French expansion, extends to North America, whose inhabitants call the conflict King William’s War.
Fought between England, France, and their respective native allies in the colonies of Canada, Acadia, and New England, King William's War begins in 1689, soon after William III of England joins the League of Augsburg against France.
Canadian and New England colonists divide in support of their mother countries and, together with their respective native allies, assume primary responsibility for their own defense.
