Seasickness and boredom mark Lafayette's two-month journey…
June 1777 CE
The ship's captain, Lebourcier, had intended to stop in the West Indies to sell cargo, but Lafayette, fearful of arrest, buys the cargo to avoid docking at the islands.
He lands on North Island near Georgetown, South Carolina, on June 13, 1777.
On arrival, Lafayette met Major Benjamin Huger, a wealthy landowner, with whom he stays for two weeks before going to Philadelphia.
