David Livingstone finds himself extremely ill while…
1869 CE
David Livingstone finds himself extremely ill while in the jungle in the beginning of 1869.
He is saved by Arab traders, who give him medicines and carry him to an Arab outpost.
Suffering from pneumonia, Livingstone arrives in March in Ujiji, an Arab settlement on the eastern shore of Lake Tanganyika, to find his supplies stolen.
Having coming down with cholera and having developed tropical ulcers on his feet, Livingstone is again forced to rely on slave traders to get him as far as Bambara, where he is caught by the wet season.
With no supplies, Livingstone has to eat his meals in a roped off open enclosure for the entertainment of the locals in return for food.
