Stephen Austin has helped in organizing a council to govern the small, informal armed groups of "rangers".
On October 17, at a consultation of the Provisional Government of Texas, Daniel Parker had proposed a resolution to establish the Texas Rangers, totaling some sixty men distributed among three companies.
Texas lawmakers institute this force on November 24, 1835, and choose Robert McAlpin Williamson is chosen to be the first Major of the Texas Rangers.
Within two years, the Rangers will comprise more than three hundred men.
