The Black Death radically alters Norway in…
1348 CE to 1359 CE
The plague leaves Norway very poor.
Although the death rate is comparable with the rest of Europe, economic recovery takes much longer because of the small, scattered population.
Even before the plague, the population is only about five hundred thousand.
After the plague, many farms lie idle while the population slowly increases.
However, the few surviving farms' tenants find their bargaining positions with their landlords greatly strengthened.
