Peter Warburton and his party have endured…
January 1874 CE
Peter Warburton and his party have endured long periods of extreme heat with little water and have survived only by killing the camels for their meat.
After finally crossing the Great Sandy Desert, they arrive at the Oakover River, eight hundred miles north of Perth, with Warburton strapped to one of the two remaining camels and the rest near death themselves.
They are eventually brought to the De Grey station in a perilous condition.
The men are all suffering from scurvy, and Warburton has lost his sight in one eye.
They finally reach Roebourne on January 26, 1874 before returning to Adelaide by ship.
