West Bank Jewish settlers increasingly take the law into their own hands; they are widely believed to be responsible for car-bomb attacks on the mayors of Ram Allah and Nablus.
Nablus mayor Bassam Shak'a is the victim in June 1980 of a terrorist attack, losing both legs to an IDF bomb thought to have been planted by Jewish settlers; Mayor Karim Khalef of Ramallah is also seriously injured.
The journal Nekudah of the religious West bank settlers praises the bombings, and the spokesman for the American Rabbi Kahane's Kach party announces at a press conference that they were in retaliation for the murder of Israeli settlers in Hebron a few weeks earlier.
