William Etty, an inveterate painter of nudes…
1835 CE
William Etty, an inveterate painter of nudes who works in the neoclassical style, draws much of the inspiration for his nude studies from classical mythology.
His admission to the National Academy in 1828 had signaled a new acceptance in mainstream art circles of the naked human form.
Etty scandalizes the art world with such sensuous nude figure studies as his Venus and her Satellites, completed in 1835.
