William is one of the ten thousand…
November 1567 CE
William is one of the ten thousand to be summoned before the Council, but he fails to appear.
He is subsequently declared an outlaw, and his properties are confiscated.
The most prominent persons judged by the council are the counts of Egmont and Horne, who have been arrested for high treason and condemned to death.
Although both are Catholic nobles who are loyal to the King of Spain, the reason for their sentence of execution is that Alba, adhering to the exalted conception of royal authority he shares with his sovereign, considers they have been too tolerant towards Protestantism.
