A new military camp is established east…
April 1861 CE
A new military camp is established east of Salt Lake City in April 1861 under the command of Colonel Patrick Connor, who openly supports his troops in prospecting for minerals and seeks to “solve the Mormon problem” by initiating a miners' rush to Utah.
A substantial enclave of non-Mormon miners, freighters, bankers, and businessmen arrive. (There will ensue three decades of social and religious conflict between Mormons and non-Mormons.)
