Zwangendaba’s migration had proceeded across the Zambezi in 1835 on a day when there was a total eclipse of the sun.
Advancing victoriously through what is now Malawi and north of Lake Malawi to the southern end of Lake Tanganyika, he founds a city, Mapupo, near present Ufipa, in the south west of what is now the western part of Tanzania.
