Ernest Robert Godward (April 7. 1869 –  December 2, 1936) is an English-born inventor and engineer who lives in New Zealand, England, and the United States.

He creates the spiral hairpin and a type of carburettor called a petrol economizer, which increases engine performance and reduces fuel consumption.
