Italian poet, humanist and epigrammist from Naples
1458 CE
to 1530 CE
Jacopo Sannazaro (July 28, 1458 – August 6, 1530) is an Italian poet, humanist and epigrammist from Naples.
He wites easily in Latin, in Italian and in Neapolitan, but is best remembered for his humanist classic Arcadia, a masterwork that illustrates the possibilities of poetical prose in Italian, and institutes the theme of Arcadia, representing an idyllic land, in European literature.
Sannazaro's elegant style is the inspiration for much courtly literature of the sixteenth century, including Sir Philip Sidney's Arcadia.
