Johannes Hevelius (Latin; in German, Johannes Hewel, Johann Hewelke, Johannes Höwelcke; in Polish, Jan Heweliusz; January 28, 1611 – January 28, 1687) is a Protestant councilor and mayor of the Danzig (Gdańsk), Pomeranian Voivodeship, in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.
As an astronomer he gains a reputation as "the founder of lunar topography" and describes ten new constellations, seven of which are still recognized by astronomers.
