Mount Weather & the Shadow Government

During the autumn of 2001, in the aftermath of the destructive attacks on the Pentagon and the World Trade Center, US Vice President Dick Cheney made few public appearances, and was said by administration spokespersons to be "in a secure location" (it wasn't his home, and it was probably not the White House).

We private citizens are not given to know where that location is, but there is one location reputed to very secure indeed: Mount Weather, a secret American underground government fortress, near the town of Bluemont, Virginia.

In the event of all-out war of similar catastrophe, an elite group of civilian and military leaders are to be taken to Mount Weather's cavernous underground shelter to ensure Continuance of Government (COG), and, in the worst case scenario, to provide the nucleus of a postwar American society.
