Andrés de Santa Cruz had been succeeded…
1840 CE to 1851 CE
Andrés de Santa Cruz had been succeeded in June 1839 by General Jose Miguel de Velasco Franco (1828, 1829, and 1839-41), who tries to control the political intrigues and maneuvering between the supporters and opponents of Santa Cruz.
After failing to repel yet another invasion by Agustín Gamarra, Velasco is overthrown.
Gamarra is killed in November 1841 near La Paz in the Battle of Ingavi, in which General Jose Ballivian y Segurola defeats the Peruvian forces and ends Peruvian expansionism.
