June 1462 CE
Ţepeş's cousin, Stephen III of Moldavia, who wants to retake Akkerman and Chilia, decides to launch an attack on the latter a few days later, with some Turkish assistance, with the objective of capturing the fortress.
The Wallachians rush to the scene with seven thousand men, and together with the Hungarian garrison, battle the Moldavians and the Turks for eight days.
The Turks are defeated and Stephen is wounded in his foot by a piece of shrapnel from artillery fire—an injury that will hasten his death.
