December 1640 CE
A resurgent Long Parliament attacks Charles’ Government, impeaching (and eventually executing) his chief supporters, Strafford and Laud.
The Root and Branch Petition, signed by fifteen thousand Londoners and presented on December 11, 1640, to the English Parliament by a crowd of fifteen hundred, calls on Parliament to abolish episcopacy "roots and branches".
The House of Commons is reluctant to act on the Root and Branch Petition, though in February 1641 it will ultimately refer the petition to committee.
