Abdur Rahman pacifies Afghanistan and consolidates his authority by 1887 after crushing a seven-year revolt by the powerful Ghilzai tribe and an unexpected rebellion led by his cousin Ish aq Khan.

He also decisively defeats Sher Ali's son Ayub, who has raided intermittently from his base in Herat.
